Well, not is all doom and gloom here in Michigan. The Red Wings are playing a game 7 for the Stanley Cup on Friday. And of course we have some successful and growing companies (ForeSee Results to name one) here in Michigan.
Yet, there are many challenges, starting with 2 of the "Big Three" dealing with bankruptcy. And the ripple effect as a result of those challenges. And the challenges the State is facing are far and wide.
I was fortunate enough this morning to get invited to a breakfast in Ann Arbor with Rick Snyder and about 80 other people. Rick is exploring a run for the Governor of Michigan. Now, I have always refrained from talking politics on this blog, but this is more about the future of Michigan then about politics. And it has a "customer" angle as well.
Rick is a very impressive guy who has had great success in his career and is not a career politician. His experience is impressive and in many ways seems to be a great fit for turning the State of Michigan back into a thriving State. That is not going to be accomplished with the typical 30 second sound bite about taxes, but with a vision, a plan and action. That is what Rick is bringing to the table along with great track record of success.
Rick also talked about the need for a customer centric government. And I couldn't agree with that more. Business will succeed if they satisfy their customers and have fiscal responsibility. This applies to State Governments as well. The State needs to meet the needs of its citizens and show fiscal responsibility. Michigan needs a customer centric leader!!
Hello --
Just took one of your surveys for Comcast.net. I've spent a lot of years in marketing research in Miami, FL and Boston, MA. Worked in telephone surveying and field intercept/product testing for Performance Plus, Framingham, MA.
Your survey was well designed. It was a little disconcerting to have it sit in the TRAY all day and "watch" me, I guess. Do you actually record the keystrokes and know where I visited? "Big (Marketing) Brother is watching you."
On this blog, background red color is absolutely blinding! Perhaps you might consider decreasing the saturation/hue of the RED so you don't get a GREEN after image when you look away. Red is my favorite color, BTW. This shade would make a fabulous dress, however! ::smile::
My father LEONARD L. KIMBALL went to law school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Born 11.11.1911. I think he graduated in 1938, but not sure. He passed away in 1988 after a long career in Dade County, Florida and as a politician in North Miami, FL.
He taught me to sing the U. of Michigan fight song! I have some photos of him in Ann Arbor. He was a handsome guy; looked like famous actor Clark Gable.
My daughter married a doctor who is also an alumnus. His parents still own a condo in the Detroit area where they raised their son and daughter. Rest of the time, they're in Boca Raton, FLORIDA.
Let's get the economy there -- and EVERYWHERE -- rolling again!

The battle against global climate change was kicked into a new gear this month, and Michigan is leading the charge. That's right: Michigan. The so-called "rust belt" state that has been putting cars, trucks, and SUV's on the road for over 100 years is putting the pedal to the metal on making the U.S. less reliant on fossil fuels. As Governor of the state that has been ground zero for the nation's economic crisis, I was proud to stand with leaders of the UAW and ten automakers as President Obama announced a truly historic, aggressive national agreement to lower greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles.

Michigan is the only state to consist entirely of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often dubbed "the mitten" by residents, owing to its shape. When asked where in Michigan one comes from, a resident of the Lower Peninsula may often point to the corresponding part of his or her hand. The Upper Peninsula (often referred to as "The U.P.") is separated from the Lower Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac, a five-mile (8 km)-wide channel that joins Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. The Upper Peninsula is economically important for tourism and natural resources.

Hi Michigan is the eighth most populous state in the United States. It has the longest freshwater shoreline of any political subdivision in the world, being bounded by four of the five Great Lakes, plus Lake Saint Clair. In 2005, Michigan ranked third among US states for the number of registered recreational boats, behind California and Florida. Michigan has 64,980 inland lakes and ponds

15 of the 40 measured UK e-retailers registered scores of 69 or lower, generally considered to be bottom performers who are risking erosion of market share and sales if improvements are not made. Ticketmaster UK and B&Q had the lowest scores in the Index (both at 65). Dixons, Currys, Freemans, and Littlewoods did only slight better but still fall to the back of the pack.
